Phillips Idowu: "That wasn't me out there"

Team GB's triple jumper Phillips Idowu insists that his performance at the London Olympics today was the worst that he has ever produced.

Phillips Idowu believes that the performance he put in during round one of the men's triple jump at the London Olympics earlier today was the worst that he has ever produced.

The 33-year-old, who has been struggling with injuries of late, failed to find any rhythm as he missed out on the qualification standard required to reach Thursday's final.

"I felt okay. I managed to get out and see my physio before today's competition so went in pain free and felt that I could have possibly qualified automatically," he told BBC Sport.

"I knew I would be rusty because it's been a while, conditions were difficult because of the wind and I knew that would be a factor, but that wasn't me out there today.

"I've competed for 12 years and I can't remember a time I've performed that badly."

Idowu went on to reveal that he is likely to have surgery over the coming weeks.
