Mo Farah sets new British two-mile record in Birmingham

Mo Farah sets a new British record time over two miles at the Diamond League in Birmingham.

Mo Farah set a new British record in the two-mile event at this afternoon's Diamond League meeting in Birmingham.

Farah, who is Olympic champion over 5,000m and 10,000m, was 15 seconds clear of New Zealand's Zane Robertson in a time of 8:07.85.

Speaking afterwards, 31-year-old Farah said: "I was a bit tired going into it but I had to push myself to get that win, but once I got into it I got better and better. I was looking at the clock thinking 'I can do it'.

"Last week has definitely given me a lot of confidence – I know I have a lot of speed on that last lap.

"It's the first time I've competed in Britain since April at the London Marathon, so it was nice to give something back. The crowd kept pushing me along."

Andy Vernon, who won medals alongside Farah at the recent European Championships in Zurich, was sixth.
