Eilish McColgan qualifies for women's 5,000m final at Rio Olympics

Great Britain's Eilish McColgan qualifies for the women's 5,000m final at the Rio Olympics, four years after failing to make the steeplechase final at London 2012.

Great Britain middle-distance runner Eilish McColgan has qualified for the women's 5,000m final at the Rio Olympics.

The 25-year-old finished fifth in her heat in 15 minutes 18.20 seconds in a race won by Ethiopia's 10,000m champion Almaz Ayana, who clocked 15:04.36.

McColgan, who competed in the 3,000m steeplechase in London 2012, told BBC Sport: "I'm over the moon, I wanted it so badly. There is no pressure on me now, I couldn't be happier."

Fellow Team GB runners Steph Twell and Laura Whittle, however, missed out on the final.
