Katarina Johnson-Thompson has won heptathlon gold at the World Athletics Championship on an evening where Zharnel Hughes also claimed bronze in the 100m.
Both British representatives went into their respective events on Sunday as outsiders to claim gold, with Johnson-Thompson adrift of Anna Hall in the heptathlon with three events remaining and Hughes facing fierce competition to land victory in one of the showpiece disciplines.
However, Johnson-Thompson landed the longest distance in the long jump - making 6.54m - to establish a lead ahead of the javelin, where she posted a personal best of 46.14m.
That provided the 2019 world champion with what was essentially a lead of just under three seconds ahead of the 800m in which Hall was the clear favourite to win.
Although the American inevitably went out hard, Johnson-Thompson remained within touching distance throughout and ensured that the gold remained within her grasp as Hall faded.
Johnson-Thompson would set a personal best of 2:05.63 as she finished just 1.52 seconds adrift of Hall, seeing her claim top spot in the standings by a mere 20 points.
Third place went to Netherlands' Anouk Vetter, but it will be Johnson-Thompson who deservedly takes the plaudits after she etched her name in Great Britain's most recent athletics history as she became a two-time world champion.

Meanwhile, Hughes followed that triumph by taking an impressive bronze in the men's 100m, even if he would have felt capable of upsetting the odds as the world's fastest man in 2023.
The 28-year-old recently set a national record of 9.83 and it was that time that won the gold medal, with American Noah Lyles prevailing in a hotly-contested race.
Silver went to Botswana's Letsile Tebogo, who clocked the same time as Hughes and fourth-placed Oblique Seville, but it was the Jamaican who agonisingly missed out on a medal.
Christian Coleman, the 2019 champion, could only finish in fifth in a time of 9.92 having been the athlete tipped to pose the greatest challenge to Lyles.
