Dina Asher-Smith powers into 200m final

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith smashes her personal best on her way into the women's 200m final at the World Athletics Championships.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith has booked her place in the women's 200m final with victory in her World Athletics Championships semi.

The 19-year-old set a new personal best in the heats, but smashed that again with a time of 22.12s, just two-hundredths of a second off the British record over the distance.

She qualifies for the final as the fastest overall having seen off the challenges of Jeneba Tarmoh and Veronica Campbell-Brown, the latter of whom makes the final as a fastest loser.

There was disappointment for Asher-Smith's fellow Brits Bianca Williams and Margaret Adeoye, however, as both failed to make the final.

Williams, a bronze medallist at last year's Commonwealth Games, only came sixth in her semi with a time of 22.87s, while Adeoye finished last in 23.34s.

Favourite Dafne Schippers cruised to victory in the second semi-final, easing over the line in 22.36s ahead of Sherone Simpson of Jamaica.

Simpson's compatriot Elaine Thompson also progressed with victory in her heat, while Candyce McGrone of USA finished second in that race to book her spot in the showpiece, where she is joined by fastest loser Ivet Lalova-Collio.
