American sprinter Tyson Gay said that he gave it his all after narrowly missing out on a medal in the 100m final.
Gay finished in fourth place, just one hundredth of a second behind bronze medal winner Justin Gatlin.
Despite running two of the five fastest 100m races of all time, Gay has still not won an Olympic medal.
He told BBC Sport: "I am down right now but I gave it my best. I don't have any excuses.
"I wanted to do it for my family but I came up short. I tried man, that was the best I could do."
Usain Bolt beat compatriot Yohan Blake to retain his Olympic 100m title, clocking an Olympic record time of 9.63s in a breathtaking race at London 2012.
