The International Association of Athletics Federations will not make any immediate changes to the current false-start rule after the World Championships in Daegu.
The rule - which sees any athlete making a false start disqualified instantly - resulted in world record holder Usain Bolt being disqualified in the 100m final.
This led to calls for the rule to be changed among many athletes.
IAAF vice-president Bob Hersh however told BBC Sport that no imminent decision was due to be made.
"It would be a mistake to quickly reverse the decision," Hersh said.
There is an IAAF meeting due after the championships on Sunday but Hersh confirmed that the false-start debate would not be discussed.
"It's not on any current agenda but I wouldn't be surprised if it were reviewed," Hersh added.
"We will have to go back and talk to our stakeholders and discuss further."
