Olympic Stadium to host baseball games?

Plans to stage a Major League Baseball game in Europe have been boosted as London's Olympic Stadium looks poised to become one location following advanced negotiations.

The Olympic Stadium could play host to the first ever Major League Baseball game in Europe following advanced negotiations to greenlight the venture on Saturday night.

The future home of West Ham United looks poised to be used for a series of MLB matches in a ground-breaking endeavour which could materialise by 2017, according to The Telegraph.

Speaking in 2012, the MLB's director for Europe Clive Russell said: "That stadium, the way it's built, actually is big enough for a baseball game. It's not perfect, but it has some real potential."

Japan, Mexico and Puerto Rico have hosted top-flight baseball games in recent years as the popular American sport looks to explore areas outside of the United States.

In March of last year, the Los Angeles Dodgers took on Arizona Diamondbacks in a two-match series at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia.

West Ham will move into the London 2012 arena for the beginning of the 2016-17 season.
