Washington Wizards knock out Chicago Bulls

The Washington Wizards win their first-round playoff series over the Chicago Bulls to reach the conference semi-finals for the first time since 2005.

The Washington Wizards have secured a first-round playoff series win for the first time in nine years, beating the Chicago Bulls 75-69 to progress after five games.

John Wall, who finished the game with 24 points, helped the team open up an early lead, but Taj Gibson and Kirk Hinrich led the home side back into it, tying the scores at half time.

The visitors re-established their lead early in the second half, as Nene scored 20 on his return from a suspension.

DJ Augustin made two free throws for the Bulls late on to cut the gap to just three points, but Chicago could not complete their comeback.

The Wizards will face either the Indiana Pacers or the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
