Cleveland Cavaliers' Iman Shumpert ruled out for three months

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert suffers a wrist injury during training ahead of the 2015-16 season which rules him out of action for three months.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert has been ruled out for three months due to a wrist injury.

The 25-year-old signed a lucrative contract extension during the off-season to remain with David Blatt's men after joining the club in a trade deal from the New York Knicks during the last term.

However, Shumpert has suffered a wrist injury while training ahead of the new campaign when he ruptured his extensor carpi ulnaris sheath as he attempted a rim shot.

The injury requires surgery to repair, which will rule the guard out of action for three months.

"He worked incredibly hard this off-season and put in a lot, a lot of work," Cavaliers general manager David Griffin said in a statement.

"And in training last week, he had an issue where he hit the rim with his right wrist. I believe he was trying to catch a lob [pass]."

Shumpert recorded 7.2 points per game for the Cavaliers in 38 games last season.
