Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving has admitted that his serious knee injury happened on a "freak play", and is not related to the tendinitis he had been suffering from.
The 23-year-old broke his knee cap in game one of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, and will miss the remainder of the season.
He told reporters: "Obviously, there was a risk going out there playing anyway, no matter what. It was just a freak play. It was something I hadn't felt before, and I had to walk off the court. That was it."
The injury is expected to keep Irving out of action for up to four months.
