Team England boxer Joe Joyce has revealed that he prefers the exclusion of headguards in the Commonwealth Games this summer.
The rule change has caused much debate in the boxing circle, but Joyce, who opened his Commonwealth medal challenge with victory over Keddy Agnes on Friday, has backed the decision.
"It is less aggravation to get it on in the ring etc and you have that strap under your chin so I prefer them off to be honest," Joyce told Sports Mole.
"Obviously there is the risk of cuts etc, but because it is still early days, people are not really coming in head first at the moment."
When asked if it could become a problem later in the tournament, Joyce responded: "It could be. If earlier cuts are suffered then it could cause problems, but that's boxing."
Joyce will fight Scot Ross Henderson in the next round.
