Carl Froch: 'I will not fight Gennady Golovkin'

Carl Froch insists that he has no intention of coming out of retirement to take on Gennady Golovkin next year.

Carl Froch has dismissed suggestions that he will come out of retirement to meet Gennady Golovkin in 2016.

Golovkin currently boasts a 34-0 record in the professional ranks and holds the IBF and WBA middleweight title belts.

Froch met the Kazakhstani's promoter Tom Loeffler while watching Tyson Fury's win over Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf last Saturday, but the 38-year-old insists that he is happy with his decision to retire.

"I spoke to Tom Loeffler and we were just chatting about fighting at a catchweight but he didn't want [Golovkin] to come near me," the four-time super-middleweight world champion told Sky Sports News.

"He didn't say anything, he didn't want to agree to anything - it didn't even sound like he wanted him to even come up to 168lbs. As soon as that was mentioned he was straight on to talking about fighting Canelo [Alvarez].

"But not only am I enjoying retirement, even though I am still fit, I am not going to get down to 168 at this stage of my life. It wouldn't be good for my health."

Froch has not been in the ring since beating George Groves for the second time in May 2014.
