Frankie Gavin to challenge Sam Eggington for British welterweight title

Frankie Gavin and Sam Eggington will square off in an all-Birmingham clash for the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles on October 17.

Frankie Gavin will challenge British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Sam Eggington at the Barclaycard Arena on October 17.

In May, Gavin suffered a sixth-round stoppage defeat to IBF title holder Kell Brook, a setback that left the former amateur world champion ready to drop down to the light-welterweight division.

However, the 29-year-old will face Birmingham rival Eggington in an attempt to become a two-time British and Commonwealth champion after a late deal was agreed between the two fighters.

Also on the bill, Kal Yafai will look to win the British super-flyweight strap against Jason Cunningham, while Matthew Macklin will make his first appearance at 154lbs in nine years against Jason Welborn.
