George Groves has said that he is "deeply concerned" for the well-being of Eduard Gutknecht after seeing his opponent taken to hospital following Friday night's WBA international super-middleweight bout.
The 28-year-old successfully defended his title at Wembley Arena in London, claiming a unanimous points win to move another step closer to a shot at the vacant WBA super-middleweight belt.
Gutknecht had to be taken out of the arena on a stretcher after falling ill in his dressing room, and Groves - who has now won each of his last four bouts - was quick to wish his rival a speedy recovery.
"Out of respect to Eduard Gutknecht and his family's privacy, I don't want to say too much but we are all deeply concerned to hear that he was taken to hospital after the fight last night," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"I sincerely hope it is nothing too serious and I would like to send out all my support and best wishes to him and his family at this difficult time."
Groves, whose winning run has come on the back of title defeats to Carl Froch and Badou Jack, could now be in line to face Fedor Chudinov next spring.
