Amir Khan will discover the outcome of his appeal against the defeat to Lamont Peterson next month.

Amir Khan will discover if his appeal over the controversial split decision that resulted in defeat against Lamont Peterson is successful next month.

Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer confirmed yesterday that an appeal would be lodged for the British boxer.

Khan was forced to relinquish his WBA and IBF titles after suffering two penalty points and controversial scoring from the referees.

"I've been given an update by the IBF and WBA," ESPN quotes Schaefer as saying. "They both want the appeal in New York on 18 and 19 January. They will make their decision on whether the outcome should be overturned, should stand or if there needs to be a rematch. There is clear outrage against the officiating and something needs to be done."

The 25-year-old Bolton-born boxer has insisted that he wants a rematch with the American even if the initial defeat stands.
