WBA welterwight champion Marcos Maidana has called on Amir Khan to face him rather than Floyd Mayweather in the British fighter's next bout.
Both men are currently the subject of a poll by Mayweather, who is close to naming his next opponent, but after Khan used social media to doubt Maidana's capabilities in a match with the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Maidana responded by challenging the former Olympic medallist.
Forget about the stupid poll and Mayweather! Got tired of @AmirKingKhan. MAIDANA VS KHAN MAY 3RD OR WHENEVER. THATS THE FIGHT

Khan, who defeated Maidana on points in a light-welterweight contest in December 2010, responded by insisting that he has no reason to take a second encounter with the Argentine combatant.
This is a mans sport Maidana and ive dealt with you.. Ive never avoided anyone.. so keep it up i wish you all the best.. 2014 my year! 😉

After his offer was seemingly rejected by Khan, Maidana replied by claiming that the Brit was the only boxer not willing to face him when he next defends the WBA welterweight title that he won from Adrien Broner two months ago.
After long discussions tonite many names were thrown but I only know who doesnt wanna fight me next: @AmirKingKhan didnt accept my challenge

Khan hasn't fought since edging past Julio Diaz last April, while Maidana could be forced into a rematch with Broner sometime in the spring.
