Amir Khan wants fans to call for Floyd Mayweather Jr bout

Amir Khan says that he wants to inspire boxing fans into demanding a fight between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr by dispatching of Devon Alexander.

Amir Khan has said that he wants to inspire boxing fans to demand a bout between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather has his sights set on a showdown with Manny Pacquiao, but Khan is hoping to increase calls for him to fight the five-weight world champion by putting down Devon Alexander this evening.

"I want the boxing fans around the world to demand a fight between me and Floyd," BBC Sport quotes the Bolton brawler as saying. "I want them to demand it when they see Amir Khan in such a good fight."

He added: "They're going to be like, 'wow, he should fight Mayweather'.

"I don't just want it to happen, I want people demanding it. It's going to be a tough fight [against Alexander] but I don't just want to win it, I want to win it in style."

Khan takes on Alexander in Las Vegas in the early hours of the morning. Read Sports Mole's preview of the fight by clicking here.
