Martin Murray: 'I want George Groves fight'

Martin Murray reveals that he wants to secure a domestic super-middleweight showdown with George Groves.

British super-middleweight Martin Murray has revealed that he wants to face George Groves at some point during 2016.

Murray is currently planning his next move after losing by split decision to WBO champion Arthur Abraham in November, with previous reports suggesting that a clash with fellow North-West fighter Paul Smith could be a possibility.

However, while that bout remains on the table, Murray has indicated that facing Groves is his main priority, should the Londoner beat Andrea Di Luisa on Saturday night.

The 33-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I think Groves is a good fighter. He's a sharp-shooter with good boxing skills and good power. I think he fades in the second halves of fights and if he and I fought, that's when I'd take over.

"He's not got that high a punch resistance. George is now my rival and a fight with George Groves is a fight that I want.

"I was unlucky in my last fight and I'm ready for all-comers now. I'm looking for those big domestic fights against the likes of Groves, Paul Smith and James DeGale."

Like Groves, Murray only holds a top-15 position with the WBC, and with Callum Smith and Hadillah Mohoumadi already scheduled to meet in a final eliminator with that governing body, Murray may look to go down a different route.
