Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr move a step closer to getting into the ring together after settling their lawsuit.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr have settled their long-running defamation case, paving the way for a welterweight superfight between the pair.

Both sides have agreed to foot their own legal costs but the full terms of the resolution will not be publicly disclosed, according to lawyer Malcolm LaVergne.

Pacquiao filed the complaint in 2009, alleging that Mayweather's father and former trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr had accused him of using performance-enhancing substances.

The Mayweathers have now released a statement through a mediator, clarifying that they "wish to make it clear that they never intended to claim that Manny Pacquiao has used or is using any performance-enhancing drugs, nor are they aware of any evidence that Manny Pacquiao has used performance-enhancing drugs".

Last week, Mayweather was ordered to pay Pacquiao $100,000 (£62,000) in legal costs after failing to show up for a court hearing in 2011.
