Frank Warren: 'Frank Bruno should not return to ring'

Veteran promoter Frank Warren says that Frank Bruno should not resume his boxing career.

Boxing promoter Frank Warren has insisted that Frank Bruno should not be making a comeback to the sport.

Bruno called time on his career 20 years ago but announced during a TV appearance on Monday that he intends to return to the ring at the age of 54.

The former heavyweight champion, who has been battling bipolar disorder since 2003, said that he had grown frustrated at being 'mugged off' by promoters of young fighters such as Anthony Joshua.

"I was quite involved when he was having his problems before and I just hope he can find something in his life that makes him happy," Warren told the Daily Mail. "Maybe that should be working with young fighters because Frank has an awful lot to offer.

"But he should not be fighting, absolutely not."

Eddie Hearn added: "Frank is a legend of the sport, a national hero, but he should not be returning to the sport."

The British Boxing Board of Control has since confirmed that it will not be issuing Bruno with a boxing licence.
