Inzamam-ul-Haq named Afghanistan coach

Inzamam-ul-Haq is named Afghanistan head coach on a short-term contract ahead of their tour of Zimbabwe later this month.

Afghanistan have confirmed the appointment of Inzamam-ul-Haq as their temporary head coach for the tour of Zimbabwe.

The former Pakistan captain has been linked with the role for a number of weeks after Afghanistan parted company with Andy Moles, whose contract expired in August.

Afghanistan will meet Zimbabwe in five one-day internationals and two Twenty20 internationals from October 16 to 29, but Inzamam has decided against committing to the job beyond the tour.

"I don't have experience of coaching an international team. That's why I wanted to first see how it goes," he told reporters.

In an impressive international career, Inzamam scored 8,830 runs in 120 Test matches and 11,739 runs in 378 ODIs before retiring from international cricket in 2007.
