Glenn McGrath praises Australia attack ahead of third Test

Glenn McGrath thinks that Australia have a "very good blend" in their bowling attack.

Former Australia bowler Glenn McGrath has heaped praise on the current attack, as they gear up to face England in the third Ashes Test tomorrow.

The tourists blew England away at Lord's to level the series at 1-1, and McGrath is happy with the variation of their current bowlers.

He wrote in The Telegraph: "I look at the rest of Australia's attack and they have a very good blend now. [Mitchell] Johnson is the leader, Mitchell Starc swings it and bowls good pace, Josh Hazelwood hits the seam all the time which is crucial in England, [Mitchell] Marsh is bowling with good energy and Nathan Lyon has learned how to set batsmen up by bowling over and around the wicket cleverly."

England have been criticised for producing slow pitches in order to nullify Australia's pacey left-armer Johnson, and McGrath thinks that is insulting to England's own attack.

He said: "If I played for England I would have been pretty annoyed they produced that Lord's deck because they were worried about Australia's bowlers. They were not backing their own cricketers on English wickets. That is too negative.

"But it is what happens when bowlers like Johnson have a hold over a you. It can lead to confusion and muddled thinking not just on the pitch, but off it too."

Australia won the last series between the sides 5-0 in 2013-14.
