Nick Compton: 'Michael Clarke's tribute to Phil Hughes was special'

Nick Compton praises Australia captain Michael Clarke for speaking "from the heart" during the funeral of late batsman Phil Hughes.

English cricketer Nick Compton has praised Australia captain Michael Clarke for his tribute to Phil Hughes at the late batsman's funeral.

The 25-year-old passed away last week, just two days after getting hit by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Clarke has received widespread credit for his conduct during the ordeal and was asked by Hughes's family to speak at the cricketer's funeral in his hometown of Macksville this morning.

"I was standing at the bar with him an hour ago and he said he has given everything," Compton told BBC World Service. "He spoke from the heart and the fact that his spirit will stay with us forever is very special."

Hughes played 26 Tests and 25 one-day internationals for Australia.
