Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden has branded Kevin Pietersen's omission from England's World Cup squad as "ludicrous" and "crazy".
Pietersen's central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board was terminated in February, although he remains "determined" to play for his country again.
The 34-year-old batsman tweeted that he would love to work with new one-day captain Eoin Morgan, who has replaced the axed Alastair Cook as skipper of the 15-man squad for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand, which Pietersen is not a part of.
ECB managing director Paul Downton has revealed that Pietersen was not considered for selection, but 2003 World Cup winner Hayden feels that England are unforgivably ignoring a match-winning asset.
"It's ludicrous Kevin Pietersen is not in the England squad," Hayden told BBC Sport. "It's just crazy. World Cups are won on innovative batting."
Pietersen is currently in Australia representing the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash Twenty20 competition.
