Australia batsman Phil Hughes remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery on a head injury suffered while in action for the West End Redbacks.
The 25-year-old collapsed at the Sydney Cricket Ground after he was struck directly on the head by a delivery from Sean Abbott during his side's Sheffield Shield match against the New South Wales Blues.
The cricketer, who received mouth-to-mouth resuscitation at the ground, was placed on life support before undergoing surgery at St Vincent's hospital.
The hospital has released an update via Twitter claiming that the batsman, who has been placed in an induced coma, is in intensive care.
The tweet read: "We can confirm that Phillip Hughes is now out of surgery. He remains in a critical condition in ICU. Thank you for the well wishes."
Reports have claimed that Hughes's prognosis is not expected to become clear for at least another 24 hours.
