Australia resumed on 487-4 in the morning and declared their first innings on 565 runs, having lost just one more wicket on the fifth day.

Michael Clarke was star batsman for the home side as he remained unbeaten on 259 runs. Michael Hussey completed his century and was out for 100.

South Africa lost Alviro Petersen for just five runs in their second innings and have headed into the lunch break at 31 for one, with Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla as their two batsmen.
