Steve Smith: 'I will keep attacking Moeen Ali'

Steve Smith insists that he will continue to attack Moeen Ali after being dismissed by the England spinner in the first Ashes Test.

Steve Smith has insisted that he will continue to attack England spinner Moeen Ali as Australia look to recover from the 169-run defeat they suffered in the first Ashes Test.

Smith regularly charged down the pitch to take on Ali in the first innings before picking out Alastair Cook at short mid-on, but Australia's number three claims that he has no intention of changing his approach.

"I think it's just about playing a little bit smarter," he told reporters. "I was probably pre-empting, coming down the wicket a little bit, and he probably saw that and dragged it down leg side and got me into a little bit of a tangle.

"I've got my plans for him in the series. I'm not going to shy away from attacking him.

"I think that's the best way to get their quicks back on a little bit quicker and hopefully tire them out. I'm still going to go after him quite a bit."

The second Test gets underway at Lord's on Thursday.
