England bowler James Anderson has revealed that he hopes to be fit for the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval next month.
A side strain forced Anderson off the field during England's eight-wicket win at Edgbaston, while he has also been ruled out of the fourth Test at Trent Bridge.
However, Anderson has insisted that he is hopeful of playing a further part in the series after being assessed by the squad's medical team.
The 33-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I'm hoping to be fit for The Oval. It is not an intercostal injury. That is not the word I heard when they told me what it was.
"Broady, who has experience of these kind of injuries, told me not to bowl another ball. I set off but pulled up and didn't want to risk it.
"I've been fortunate with injuries so you just have to take it on the chin. The medical team were happy with me and didn't think it was too serious."
Victory on Friday has given England a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.
