Andy Flower denies Kevin Pietersen England quit threat

Andy Flower swiftly denies that he threatened to quit England if Kevin Pietersen remained part of the team.

Andy Flower moved quickly to slam media reports speculating a rift in the England dressing following their 5-0 humiliation in The Ashes.

Following the whitewash defeat to Australia, Flower refused to confirm whether or not Pietersen would form a part of the "new era" that he wanted to oversee, leading to rumours that he had told the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that he would quit his role as team director if the 33-year-old batsman continued to be a part of the team.

"Following speculation in the media today, I feel it necessary to reiterate much of what I said in my recent press conference," Flower said in an ECB statement.

"It would be sensible and responsible to review the tour in a calm and logical manner before assessing our options for the future and planning ahead.

"I repeat that neither I nor the wider ECB leadership group have made any decisions as to the future involvement of any individuals in the playing group or in the support staff. The reports that I have issued an ultimatum of some description to the ECB are totally inaccurate."

The current England side were just the third team in Ashes history to lose a series 5-0.
