England captain Eoin Morgan has insisted that it is a "long story" over why he does not sing the national anthem before World Cup matches.
The 28-year-old has represented England since 2009 and took over the captaincy from Alastair Cook in December last year.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Dublin-born batsman has defended his reasons not to sing 'God Save the Queen'.
"It's pretty simple," he said. "I've never sung the national anthem whether I've played for Ireland or England.
"It doesn't make me any less proud to be an English cricketer. I'm extremely proud to be in the position I am in and privileged to be captain of a World Cup side.
"It's a long story. It's a personal thing."
England got their World Cup campaign up and running with a 119-run victory over Scotland on Monday, and face Sri Lanka tomorrow in Wellington.
