Ian Bell has revealed that he was pleased to help England establish a lead over the West Indies on day three of the first Test at Lord's.

The Warwickshire batsman made an impressive knock of 61 as the hosts moved 155 runs ahead of the tourists.

England's bowling attack were then out in full force as they left the Windies on 120-4 at the close of play.

"It was nice to make a contribution that helped us to get a 150-run lead," the 30-year-old told Sky Sports News. "It felt very good.

"Early in the English season you want to be careful driving the ball, and I wanted to be as patient as possible and let the bowling come to me.

"I think I got that rhythm at Warwickshire and I was able to be patient today."

Bell's score of 61 saw him notch up his 30th Test half-century.
