Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott has suggested that the England and Wales Cricket Board will be making a mistake if they appoint Andrew Strauss as director of cricket.
The new role was created last month following the departure of managing director Paul Downton.
Ex-England captain Strauss has been tipped as a contender for the ECB position, but Boycott fears that nothing will change if the 38-year-old is appointed.
"We have a cautious captain (Alastair Cook) and a cautious coach (Peter Moores)," Boycott told Test Match Special. "If it is Strauss - he's the same. He likes Cook, so he's going to go with Cook and everything stays the same.
"Nothing changes, they'll just go on with the same people. Andrew Strauss will come in, Cook's his mate and everything will go on just the same. Sad."
England have slipped to fourth in the ICC Test rankings following their five-wicket defeat to the West Indies on Sunday.
