Alastair Cook praises England's team spirit after beating New Zealand

England captain Alastair Cook hails the team spirit within the camp following his side's 124-run victory over New Zealand at Lord's.

England captain Alastair Cook has said that his side's team spirit pushed them to victory over New Zealand.

Lord's was the setting for England's 124-run win over the Black Caps, which has given the hosts a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.

Ben Stokes impressed with the bat and the ball as he scored 92 runs in the first innings and 101 in the second before taking two wickets in successive balls on the final day.

"The way we kept taking a positive approach was fantastic," The Express quotes Cook as saying. "A lot of things pleased me about this Test but the best was that it was a real team effort from one to 11.

"I have never heard Lord's like that. When this guy [Ben Stokes] took two wickets in two balls all the lads said it was just amazing. For me that ranks incredibly highly - it was a brilliant Test match played in a brilliant spirit."

Meanwhile, New South Wales coach Trevor Bayliss is currently the favourite to take over as England head coach.
