Steven Finn fit, in contention for first Test

Steven Finn is declared fit and enters contention for England's first Test against South Africa on Boxing Day.

Steven Finn has been declared fit and is in contention for England's first Test against South Africa over the Christmas period.

The pace bowler was added to the squad for the series earlier this week but had not been expected to feature until the second Test as he continues recovery from a foot injury.

England bowling coach Ottis Gibson told The Guardian: "The understanding is that once he has made it here he is added to the squad and therefore if he proves in the next couple of days that he is ready, my understanding is that everybody is available for selection.

"He hasn't played a game but given the facilities here he has done a lot of good stuff in the nets and put himself right in the frame."

The first Test gets underway on Boxing Day in Durban.
