Joe Root targeting consistency with the bat

Joe Root targets consistency with the bat after starting the West Indies tour by recording an unbeaten half-century in a warm-up match.

Joe Root has admitted that his target is to become more consistent following a positive start with the bat on the tour of the West Indies.

The Yorkshire batsman struck an unbeaten 104 as England beat the Vice Chancellor's XI by 29 runs in a warm-up match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

When asked if he felt he was starting to find form following a disappointing tour of Australia, Root told reporters: "A little bit. I never worried too much about that. I knew I was always going to come back.

"It was never really a massive worry, just a fresh start here on this tour and really knuckling down and getting back to making some big runs.

"The key is to continue and build on this, and make sure I go on and become more consistent and can be relied upon on more occasions."

England take on the West Indies in the first one-day international on Friday.
