Jonathan Trott has insisted that he is ready to prove himself again after being named in the England Lions squad.
The Warwickshire batsman's inclusion in the squad to tour South Africa in January means he will return to international cricket for the first time since pulling out of last winter's Ashes tour with what was described as a "stress-related illness".
Trott is hopeful that his performances in South Africa will improve his chances of reclaiming a spot in the England side.
"I am like everyone else playing county cricket in that I have aspirations to play for England," the 33-year-old told BBC Sport.
"I remember going on previous Lions trips in 2007 and 2008 and having to do my time on those and prove myself. That is something that I need to do again."
Trott has scored 3,763 runs in 49 Tests for England.
