England suffer World Twenty20 defeat to Netherlands

England lose by 45 runs against the Netherlands in their final match of the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

England have suffered a 45-run defeat to the Netherlands in their final match of the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

The result means that the Three Lions, who started the day with no chance of progressing to the semi-finals, will finish at the bottom of Group 1.

Having lost the toss, the Dutch posted a score of 133-5 before England were bowled out for 88 with just over two overs remaining.

Wesley Barresi top scored for the Netherlands with a knock of 48, but Stephan Myburgh (39) and Michael Swart (13) were the only other players to reach double figures.

Stuart Broad claimed three wickets for England while Chris Jordan and Ravi Bopara took the remaining two wickets between them.

England's time at the crease started disastrously as the dismissals of Michael Lumb (six), Alex Hales (12), Eoin Morgan (six) and Moeen Ali (three) left them on 32-4.

They failed to improve after that, with Jos Buttler (six), Bopara (18) Tim Bresnan (five), Jordan (14), Broad (four) and James Tredwell (eight) all performing woefully with the bat.
