England wrap up South Africa series win

England wrap up a 3-1 series win over South Africa with a 177-run victory in the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

A five-wicket haul from Moeen Ali helped England to wrap up a 3-1 series win over South Africa this evening with a 177-run victory in the fourth Test.

The hosts entered the day on 224-8 but were back to fielding just 15 minutes in as Stuart Broad (5) and then James Anderson (2) fell quickly, leaving Ali on 75 from 66.

With a target of 380 set for victory, the Proteas' response began poorly as Dean Elgar went for just five in the third over, with Heino Kuhn (11) and Temba Bavuma (12) also falling before lunch.

Hashim Amla then put up some resistance, collecting 38 from 35 on his way to a final tally of 83 from 159 before being caught out lbw by Ali.

Having enjoyed a profitable partnership of 123 with Amla, skipper Faf du Plessis put in 61, but after he went out to Anderson just after tea the match was quickly put to rest - the visitors all out for 202 having lost their last seven wickets for just 39 runs.

The victory marks England's first Test series win over South Africa on home soil since 1998.
