Sauber, which is in the process of becoming a full works Formula 1 team with Audi in 2026, has announced plans to establish a new base in the United Kingdom.
The Swiss-based team successfully lobbied the FIA last year for permission to exceed the budget cap, citing the higher operational costs associated with running an F1 outfit outside of the UK.
However, beyond financial challenges, teams based outside Britain also struggle to attract specialist personnel due to relocation difficulties.
FIA single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis had previously suggested that non-UK teams may need to relocate, although "we don't think (this) is the way for a world championship to operate."
Despite that, Sauber has now confirmed that it will launch a "new technical centre in the UK."
"The Sauber Motorsport Technology Centre UK will extend the team's presence and influence within the global Formula 1 landscape," the team announced.
The decision is driven by the need to access Britain's extensive motorsport talent pool, particularly in areas surrounding Silverstone and Milton Keynes. While a specific location has not yet been finalized, Sauber aims to have the facility operational "by summer 2025."
Despite this expansion, team principal Mattia Binotto assured that Sauber's Swiss headquarters in Hinwil will remain the "key site."
"Expanding into the UK allows us to remain close to one of the world's most dynamic motorsport ecosystems," he stated.
