Murali Vijay leads India forward in Brisbane

Murali Vijay reaches 73* as India progress to 151-3 at tea on the first day of the second Test against Australia.

The first day of the second Test match is finely poised after Murali Vijay led India to 151-3 at the tea break in Brisbane.

India resumed on 89-1 in the afternoon, but Australia were gifted a wicket when the battling Cheteshwar Pujara was harshly given out on 18 by Ian Gould.

Josh Hazlewood benefited from the decision as he picked up his first Test wicket, but replays suggested that his bouncer had struck Pujara on the helmet on the way through to Brad Haddin.

Virat Kohli looked in good touch once again as he joined Vijay, who had reached his half-century shortly before the departure of Pujara.

However, a poorly-timed cut shot sent Kohli back inside for just 19 as Hazlewood and Haddin combined again for the seamer's second wicket.

Vijay ended the session on 73*, with Ajinkya Rahane alongside him on 13* on a day when the hot conditions were testing both the bowlers and batsmen.
