Shivnarine Chanderpaul: 'Derbyshire victory was a team effort'

Shivnarine Chanderpaul says that Derbyshire's County Championship victory over Somerset was a "team effort."

Derbyshire batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has said that his side's County Championship victory over Somerset was a "team effort."

The 39-year-old hit an unbeaten 74 to steer Karl Krikken's team to a two-wicket win at Taunton on Friday afternoon.

Chanderpaul and Tim Groenewald saw the visitors over the line after they were reduced to 238-8 at lunch, needing six more runs for victory.

"I'm delighted to have seen us home. It was a tough day for us and a tough game. But we stood strong and came out on top at the end," Chanderpaul told Derbyshire's official website.

"There were obviously a few nerves at lunch. We just tried to keep it out of our mind and not stress too much about it. If it was going to happen it would happen.

"We just had to go out and do whatever we had to do to get the last few runs. Thankfully we managed to get over the line. It was a total team effort."

The victory lifts Derbyshire out of the Division One relegation zone, leaving Somerset and Surrey in the bottom two.
