Jordan Silk stars in narrow Sydney Sixers victory

Sydney Sixers beats Sydney Thunder thanks to some solid batting from Jordan Silk at the SCG.

Jordan Silk and Stephen O'Keefe hit 23 from the final over in this morning's Big Bash League meeting against Sydney Thunder to rescue a slender victory for Sydney Sixers.

Thunder, who cannot qualify for the semi-finals, opened the batting with Jacques Kallis and Cameron Delport, who reached a combined 74 runs in eight overs.

Deport (30) was the first to go when Nathan Lyon struck, and Kallis, who top-scored for his side with 56 off 43 balls, eventually followed.

An impressive unbeaten 51 from Aiden Blizzard helped guide Thunder to 154-4 after 20 overs, and the Sixers initially struggled in their reply when Michael Lumb was sent packing by Josh Lalor for a single run.

However, in front of a record-breaking crowd of 36,487 at the SCG, in what was Brett Lee's final appearance at the famous arena, the Sixers managed to turn things around to steal the victory.

Riki Wessels (30) helped to rack up the runs, while stand-in skipper Nic Maddinson (15) and Ed Cowan were both removed inside the first six overs.

Silk's personal Big Bash League best 69 runs off 43 balls, including five sixes and a four, helped his side to mount the comeback, with O'Keefe then hitting the four needed off the final ball to secure a narrow win.
