Brisbane Heat have secured a vital win in the Big Bash League after defeating the Melbourne Stars by 24 runs.
The Stars won the toss and elected to field, which gave Brisbane the chance to set a high run-rate for their opponents to chase and it was a positive start from the home side, who managed to rack up 33 runs before Luke Pomersbach was dismissed for 12.
James Hopes was the standout batsman for Brisbane and he narrowly missed out on clinching a half-century after he was brought down on 49 courtesy of a bowl by Lasith Malinga.
Stars bowler Shane Warne failed to claim a wicket and dropped a catch in the 18th over as Brisbane closed their innings on 171-5.
The Stars, who headed into the fixture second in the table, struggled to take a stronghold of their innings after Rob Quiney was dismissed in the second over.
Luke Wright managed to claim the Stars' biggest score of 34 but it wasn't enough to reach their target of 172 and they stumbled to 147-9.
