South Africa have steadily moved towards the first-innings total set by Pakistan in the second Test at lunch on day three in Cape Town.
Saeed Ajmal had taken all five wickets to leave the hosts on 139-5 heading in to the third day and he added Dean Elgar's wicket to make it six out of six as Pakistan looked to finish off the Proteas.
However, AB de Villiers was providing the most stubborn resistance before he went for 61 off the bowling of Mohammad Irfan.
That left the hosts with no more recognised batsmen to come in but Robin Peterson (40*) and Vernon Philander (11*) steadied the ship to get South Africa to lunch on 248-7, 90 runs behind the tourists' total.
