South Africa captain Graeme Smith has been ruled out of the final one-day international against Pakistan because of an ankle injury.

The 32-year-old suffered the injury during yesterday's defeat in the fourth ODI at Kingsmead yesterday.

A statement read: "Graeme Smith has been ruled out of the fifth ODI between South Africa and Pakistan taking place at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Sunday due to a chronic left ankle injury.

"Smith has been given a period of rest and rehabilitation and the selectors have yet to name a player to assist as a cover."

The series is finely poised at 2-2 heading into the decider on Sunday.
