Lisa Brennauer takes victory in women's time trial at the World Championships

Lisa Brennauer rides to victory in the elite women's time trial at the World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain.

German rider Lisa Brennauer won the elite women's time trial at the World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain this afternoon.

The 26-year-old recorded a time of 38 minutes and 48 seconds around the 29.5km course, beating Ukraine's Anna Solovey by eight seconds.

Brennauer had trailed Solovey at the second intermediate time split, but produced a superb attack over the last eight kilometres to take victory.

"I had a really good day. The race was very long but I gave it my all on the climb. It's overwhelming. I can't believe it right now," Brennauer told reporters.

Defending champion Ellen van Dijk finished seventh, a minute and 11 seconds behind Brennauer.
