Belgian racer Philippe Gilbert pens three-year deal with BMC Racing

Belgian racer Philippe Gilbert has signed for BMC Racing on a three-year-deal.

The 29-year-old, who won the first stage of the Tour de France this year, will join the Swiss-American team alongside world champion Thor Hushovd and Tour de France winner Cadel Evans.

"They were interested in me from the beginning,” Sky Sports News quotes Gilbert as saying.

"My objectives are clear - to go for the one-day classics and then go to the Tour to learn and help Cadel.

"Next year with the start in Liege, it's close to my home. So I will try to win a stage and then help Cadel win the Tour."

The Belgian professional racked up a number of wins this season including the Fleche Wallonne, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Clasica San Sebastian and the Amstel Gold Race.
