Richie Porte to link up with BMC Racing

Australian rider Richie Porte will join BMC Racing for the 2016 campaign after deciding to leave Team Sky.

Richie Porte has opted to sign a one-year deal with BMC Racing after deciding to leave Team Sky.

Last month, Porte played an important role as Chris Froome secured his second Tour de France crown, but the Australian rider will now ply his trade for American-based team BMC.

BMC manager Jim Ochowicz is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "Richie will add extra muscle and a wealth of experience. It also gives us the chance to separate or unite our strategies and goals as we see fit throughout the season."

The 30-year-old, who has been with Team Sky since 2012, finished in 48th place in the Tour de France.
