Laura Trott wins unprecedented fourth Olympic gold

Laura Trott wins an unprecedented fourth Olympic gold with victory in the omnium in Rio, becoming the most successful British female Olympian of all time.

Laura Trott has become the most successful British female Olympian in history with her fourth gold medal.

Trott, who last week claimed the top prize in the women's team pursuit, stormed to the omnium title in Rio to become the first woman from Great Britain to win four Olympic golds.

The 24-year-old added to the two golds she won in London four years ago with a dominant performance in the six-race event, finishing in the top two of the opening five to put herself in a strong position heading into the points race.

Trott was able to ease through the final race with minimum fuss to take gold with a score of 230, retaining the title she won in London.

USA's Sarah Hammer claimed silver, while Belgium's Jolien D'Hoore was forced to settle for bronze.
